MDSO lead Civic sectionals

MDSO coached hundreds of students Saturday in Civic sectional rehearsals at Orchestra Hall.  Ted Oien – clarinet, Haden McKay – cello, Corbin Wagner – French horn, Marian Tanau – violin and Shelley Heron – oboe were among more than a dozen DSO musicians who led  all-day classes, helping student prepare their repertoire for their upcoming concerts in November. Tiger fever has taken hold the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.  Audiences at the first two weeks of concerts this season have been treated to an encore that caught the concert-goers and the orchestra members by surprise.  DSO Music Director Leonard Slatkin notified the librarians and staff on the morning of the first concert he was interested in finding an orchestra arrangement of a Tiger fight song.  Continue Reading

Leonard Leibowitz 1938-2011

MDSO’s negotiating counsel passes away.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that long-time MDSO negotiating counsel Leonard Leibowitz passed away October 3th.  For almost four decades, Lenny represented the Musicians of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra with dedication, focusing our goals of building and maintaining a top notch orchestra for Detroit and Michigan.  Most recently he led DSO musicians in a six-month Continue Reading

Orme & Nulty Join EMU Faculty

EMU appoints Shannon Orme and Dennis Nulty

Eastern Michigan University now has two of our own DSO musicians on faculty!  Dennis Nulty is now Professor of Tuba and Euphonium.  Shannon Orme joined the clarinet faculty and will be featured at EMU’s Clinic Day on Nov. 19th.  Congrats to both of them!
