The Detroit Symphony Orchestra has a new leader at the helm!
With the departure of Concertmaster Emmanuelle Boisvert, Kimberly Kaloyanides Kennedyhas been appointed DSO’s Acting Concertmaster. This is great news for the orchestra. Adam Stepniewski, Assistant Principal Second Violin, said, “Kim takes great joy in bringing music to life and she passes that pleasure onto her colleagues in the orchestra.”
Kim joined the DSO’s violin section in 1998 at the young age of 22. Five years later, her commitment and hard work ensured her promotion to the Assistant Concertmaster position. For well over a decade, audiences have immediately recognized her flawless playing and leadership abilities whether she is performing chamber music or is involved in orchestra concerts.
Congratulations Kim on your new appointment! We are confident that you will lead us with outstanding professionalism and grace.
Message from Kimberly Kaloyanides Kennedy:
What I am about to embark upon as Acting Concertmaster is an awesome responsibility. I have big shoes to fill. The grief of losing Emmanuelle and other DSO musicians is still fresh, as are the wounds from this past season. But, perhaps the responsibility I feel is even greater because of what we have all been through this year.
Now, more than ever, we must allow the power of music to prevail, to heal, to inspire, to bridge gaps, to unite and bring together all those involved in this amazing institution. Everyone, from the incredible musicians on stage, the donors, the volunteers, the board and management, to our ticket buyers and community who have been here with us through the difficulties, plays an integral roll in the future success of the DSO. Together we can keep the world class Detroit Symphony Orchestra alive and strong.
It is my hope to lead and serve in every way I can, both on and off the stage, to ensure that the tragic events of this past year are never repeated.
